01
Philosophy

The room is half
the recording.

Most audio work prioritizes dramatization over documentation. Post-production "magic" replaces authentic capture. The emotional fingerprint of actual moments gets processed out.

"The emotion the player puts into the sound will resonate through the recording and transcend the listener into the environment."

We work toward acoustic authenticity — preserving spatial relationships, room signature, and the energy a performer actually puts into a space. That's what transports someone listening back.

01
Commit at capture
Minimal processing, decisions made in the room. The "fix it in post" mentality destroys the thing worth preserving.
02
Three-dimensional capture
Sound exists across left/right, front/back, and vertical axes. Recording arrays preserve those relationships, not just frequency content.
03
The work speaks, or it doesn't
Professional equipment and proven technique without the theater. No gear debates. The delivered recording is the only credential.
04
Accessible preservation
Commercial work funds the Preservation Foundation — ensuring quality documentation isn't limited to clients who can afford full market rates.

What this makes possible
Capture every dimension
of a space.

Up to eight simultaneous channels recorded in the field — ORTF stereo, spaced omnis, and figure-8 arrays running together. Left/right, front/back, height. The room as it actually sounds, not a simplified version of it.

Deliver whatever
format you need.

Archival masters at 24-bit/96kHz, plus stereo, surround, Ambisonics, OGG for seamless looping, FLAC — whatever your pipeline requires. The signal chain stays fully balanced from capsule to converter, so nothing gets added that wasn't there.

Equipment chosen to
stay out of the way.

Every piece in the chain was selected because it's transparent, reliable, and purpose-built for field work. Not because it looks impressive in a list. The goal is always that the recording sounds like the place — not like the gear.

Process

How a session works.

i
Consultation

Free 30–60 minute conversation. What are you capturing, why does it matter, what does the deliverable need to do. No forms, just a real discussion.

ii
Array Design

The right microphone configuration for your environment — chosen for the space and the goal, not as a default. ORTF, DMS, spaced omnis, or combinations.

iii
Recording Session

Clean, professional execution. Decisions made in the room. The recording reflects what was actually there — no "we'll fix it later."

iv
Delivery

Archival 24-bit/96kHz masters plus your format requirements. WAV, OGG, FLAC — whatever your pipeline needs, with clean metadata throughout.

Not every moment can afford
to be remembered well.

The Axis Audio Preservation Foundation provides free and heavily subsidized professional recording to community groups, schools, cultural events, and environmental documentation projects. Commercial work funds charitable work — that cycle is the point of the whole structure.
